Darvon

Darvon is an opiate used to relieve pain. It is taken in pill form and is composed of the active component known as Propoxyphene.It is widely used to treat pain where Tylenol or Aspirin is not adequate enough for relief. It is also used for mild post operative pain relief and could be considered a general purpose pain relief agent.

Darvon can cause Drowsiness and Dizziness and should not be taken while driving or operating heavy machinery. Alchohol can add to this side effect.The majority of prescription medication in tablet or pill form should never be chewed and never crushed. Additionally, as with all prescription medication, it should not be taken in case of pregnancy or while breast feeding.Caution should be used in cases of Kidney disease.

Darvon has several drug interaction considerations;
Darvon should not be taken along with blood coagulant medication such as WARFARIN.
Additionally, when Darvon is taken with benzodiazepines such as Valium and Xanax the tranquillizer effects are increased.
Finally Darvon should not be taken with Fenytoin Sodium.
